Permanent Lip Makeup for Cleft Lip or Palate

What possibilities does permanent makeup offer for lip corrections?

Permanent lip makeup aims to enhance natural beauty while concealing imperfections, asymmetry, or scars from past conditions. The results of such pigmentation are stunning, providing women with beautiful lips, enhanced comfort, and boosted self-confidence.

How important is lip pigmentation for a client with a cleft lip?

Individuals born with a cleft lip or palate often undergo multiple surgeries aimed at restoring normal life functions and improving their outward appearance. These individuals frequently struggle with dissatisfaction regarding their appearance, as this condition results in asymmetrical lips and numerous scars. Their dream is to have beautiful lips and conceal these scars. Lip micropigmentation for women with a cleft lip is an excellent solution, providing psychological comfort. It's important to note that lip pigmentation for clefts can be a lengthy process and may sometimes yield immediate results.

Working with scars. What should you know?

Pigmenting lips after a cleft requires a skilled and individual approach, as this stage presents various types of scars—soft or hard—depending on the type of cleft and the number of surgeries undergone. Before pigmentation, it's essential to assess the type of scar and the severity of the cleft, as this affects the intensity of work needed in that area.

How to create a preliminary sketch and which cartridges to use?

Another crucial aspect is the preliminary drawing for the procedure, which must be meticulously executed. Initially, outlining the lip shape around the scar is essential—often, one side of the Cupid's bow is flat, while the other is convex. Sometimes, the upper lip isn't fully formed. Hence, the drawing may need to extend beyond the lip onto the skin. After establishing the shape, selecting the pigment color is key. The pigment should be opaque because scarring may significantly affect its adherence during pigmentation. By using suitable pigment types and considering the upper lip's structure, a 3D effect can be achieved. The most effective pigmentation results are achieved using cartridges (1 RL, 3 RL, 3 RS).

How important is a PMU artist's knowledge and experience?

The procedure of micropigmentation for cleft lip is a new field in permanent makeup, holding significant potential for development and an opportunity to expand knowledge and experience in this unique form of pigmentation. A PMU artist plays a crucial role in addressing an inherent defect that impacts a client's psychological and emotional well-being. My professional experience in this field so far has shown that performing such procedures brings a lot of emotions, but the results bring immense joy and satisfaction.
